FAQ

ABOUT TALLOW

How Is Your Tallow Rendered?

We use both dry-rendered and wet rendered tallow in our products. We’ve come up with a proprietary way of using our tallow so that it has the most effective results and uniform, soft consistency depending on the products intention and format.

Is Your Tallow Mold Free?

Yes, we ensure it is tested extensively for moisture, bacteria, microbial growths and mold. We can offer a link to results showing that our products are mold and bacteria free.

What Is Suet?

Suet is the hard white fat found around the kidneys of cows and sheep. It has a high concentration of beneficial fatty acids and acts as a natural emollient - meaning that it helps to soften and soothe the skin, making it particularly effective for those with dry or itchy skin conditions. Suet is also non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores or cause acne breakouts.

CARING FOR YOUR TALLOW

Tallow Shelf Life?

12 months

Proper Tallow Storage?

Tallow can be stored in room temperature on the countertop or for longer shelf life in the fridge. We advise that you avoid getting water into your jar, wash your hands and dry them before using and keep out of extreme heat.

Safety of Tallow Use Around Eye Area?

Yes, as long as you perform a patch test first, you are safe to use our face tallows around your eyes, while avoiding contact with your eyes directly.

Skin Reactions

If you have an allergic response to one of our products, discontinue use immediately and we will happily reimburse you.

What to do if white bumps appear after using tallow?

If you're noticing white bumps on your skin after using tallow, it’s likely a sign that your skin could benefit from a gentle exfoliation. These bumps are often caused by a buildup of dead skin cells beneath the surface. To address this, try exfoliating with raw honey or opt for mildly gritty exfoliants like pearl powder or colostrum powder (coming soon from Sun & Moo!). Exfoliating regularly can help clear away the buildup and reveal smoother, healthier skin.

Our Methods

Why Do Some Products Feel Gritty?

We are constantly striving to avoid this issue, and we’re hoping that with each new batch our products get better based on our customers feedback. With that being said, in rare cases, tallow can melt with intense heat in shipping and then solidify with a little ‘grit’. This grittiness can be easily mediated by allowing it to warm up in your palms and rubbing in before applying to face.

Why We Don't Use Essential Oils?

We prefer to use whole herbs, flowers, extracts and oils in our skincare. The infusion process captures the essence of the whole plant leaving a final product that is soothing, nourishing and mild that can be safely used on all skin types, including sensitive skin. We do use an essential blend we created in The Sleep Tallow, but we encourage people to use that on specific parts of their skin like the feet, hands and legs.

Exfoliation Tips For Better Skin?

We recommend exfoliation 1-3x a week depending on makeup usage and other factors including exercise and skin type. A natural exfoliant, cleanser and mask that we recommend is honey, which is soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory. Apply raw honey onto wet skin and rub on. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and wash off with a warm rag or warm water. Checkout our honey mask which includes beneficial herbs and powders that revitalizes the skin!

Why Is The Soother A Different Texture Than My Other Tallow Cream?

The Soother is different than our other tallow balms due to its lack of oil. The product is tallow and organic frankincense resin, while our other tallow balms have an oil in there to give it the whipped texture. This slightly thicker consistency is a reflection of the lack of oil, and our customers who have issues with oils on their skin love this product for their face and children. If you’re interested in another product with frankincense, check out our Beautiful Serum.
